Misinformation in Times of Covid-19
23 July 2020 14:00-15:30 CET

CONTEXT

The unprecedented surge of fake news during the Covid-19 pandemic poses a challenge that needs to be addressed. Usually, while considering various types of information distortions, experts pay a lot of attention to organized disinformation. In this case, however, the experts will focus on something different – a misinformation. As opposed to disinformation, which is both untrue and disseminated with an ill faith, misinformation per se doesn’t have to be spread with malicious intentions. This makes this notion broader and it is worth mentioning that rarely relates to mass movements. Still, it is no less dangerous than its concerted counterpart! To take on that, we have invited members of academia, practitioners and government representatives to jointly discuss the phenomenon of misinformation in times of Covid-19, but also to look for answers on how to tackle it. Different fields of expertise of our panelists and their geographical variety (the UK & Poland) will offer a great insight into what is currently happening in cyberspace and what can be eventually done about it.

Tackling cybersecurity challenges during the pandemic in the fields of healthcare and financial sectors
28 July 2020 15:00-16:30 CET

CONTEXT

The ongoing global health crisis has changed our lives in an unprecedented way. Various sectors struggle to adjust to the new reality, but two of them remain amongst the most affected: healthcare and finance. As both are crucial to ensure the society’s wellbeing and functioning, those sectors have to adapt even more rapidly and efficiently. The pandemic has further accelerated the digital transformation, as people were forced to move their businesses and lives online, and lots of digital tools were introduced to monitor the spread of the virus. ICT tools are, most likely irreversibly, converging with the physical realm. Due to increased reliance on new technologies, the society is also more exposed to various cyberthreats – newly unveiled vulnerabilities are being exploited through sophisticated phishing campaigns, network data breaches, ransomware and DDoS attacks. Each part of our lives is being adapted to the new reality, and the world of cybercrime is not an exception.
