Scott Malcomson

Author of “The Splinternet” (2016); Director of Special Projects, Strategic Insight Group (SIG); former senior official at the United Nations and the US State Department

Scott Malcomson is a principal at Strategic Insight Group and FutureMap and the author of Splinternet: How Geopolitics and Commerce Are Fragmenting the World Wide Web (2016), his fifth book. He has worked in Africa, Asia, North and South America, Europe and the Middle East. He served as a senior official at the State Department and the UN and was foreign editor at the New York Times magazine (2004-2011). He has been an executive at two international NGOs and a fellow at the Carnegie Corporation and the New America Foundation. He advises investor and corporate clients on technology and politics and has written on those topics for the New York Times, Washington Post, Guardian, Foreign Affairs, Techonomy, International Institute for Strategic Studies, and elsewhere. He has a BA in Chinese history from UC Berkeley and an MA in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
