Karol Okoński

Managing Director, Cybersecurity Lead for Public Sector (PL & CEE), PwC

Karol Okoński is a Director responsible in PwC for cybersecurity in public sector in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe. He advises on cybersecurity strategy and governance, especially from the perspective of process optimation, technological risk management and regulatory compliance.

He has more than 20 years of experience in ICT, IT risk management and cybersecurity. Before joining PwC he was a Deputy Minister at the Polish Ministry of Digital Affairs from June 2016 to December 2019. Additionally he was appointed as first Government Plenipotentiary for Cybersecurity from December 2018 to December 2019 and was a Board Member of European Cyber Security Organisation (ECSO) in years 2018-2019. In the Ministry he has supervised the area of cybersecurity, development of digital services as well as development and maintenance of national registers, taking also active part in international cooperation on digital policy. He was i.a. Vice-Chairman of the Digital Committee of the Council of Ministers, Chairman of the IT Architecture Council and Vice-Chair of the Information Society Team of Joint Committee of the Central and Local Government. He chaired Steering Committees for a number of key governmental programmes, among others, Central Register od Vehicles and Drivers, Digital Identity, Open Data,  National State Registries and Common Cloud Infrastructure.

Previously, in years 2001-2012 he worked at Accenture and between 2012 and 2016 was IT Director in a postal services company and in a bank.
